ELM Electric Pencil Sharpener V-6 - Unboxing & Mini Review

Electric pencil sharpener (EPS) is not easy to find in Malaysia, I've visited many shops (Art shop, stationery shop, hardware shop etc) but no luck.

After searching the internet, finally found one stationary shop that sells electric pencil sharpeners.  I can buy the item online, but since I  don't want to wait for delivery and the shop is located in Jalan Ipoh, which is 1/2 hour drive away, I went there and bought the ELM V-6 unit for RM180 (approx. US65).

Ok, here we go, the unit  weights about 1kg, underneath the unit there are 3 suction caps for stabilization, the power cable that comes out from the back is about 1 meter long. You need a 3 pin adapter (not included) in order to plug into the power outlet.

I plug the socket into the power outlet, switch it on, insert a pencil into the insertion hole….  nothing happened! .... After trying a few time, I noticed the problem, the dust box is loose, and won't snugged properly onto the unit. So I  use my thumb to push in the dust box while inserting the pencil, it works!

I don't know whether this is a safety feature or not, but using both hands to sharpen a pencil defeats the propose of buying this item.

So the solution... wrap a rubber band or two around the unit to hold the dust box in place. Now the sharpener work flawlessly.

You can see some images & manual of the ELM V-6 unit below.

Intuos4 Pressure Tablet

Intuos4_art01

My 1st "finished" artwork using Wacom's Intuos4 8"x13" tablet.

I bought my tablet a week ago, and i'm trying to get the hang of it, there's differences between normal drawing and drawing on a pressure tablet, something I've got to get used to draw on tablet while looking at the monitor screen.

I used Adobe Photoshop CS5 for this drawing. Enjoy

Update: Wacom just announce availability of Intuos5. :p

At The Art Expo Malaysia 2011

I've visited the recently concluded Art Expo Malaysia 2011 at the Martrade Building, at the centre on Kuala Lumpur city.

It was a rare opportunity to see so many wonderful artworks not only from many countries, but also some internationally well known artists.

There are any artworks, paintings, sculptures and installations. Like a child in a candy store, I'm enjoyed the exhibits thoroughly.

With a sketchbook on my hand, I sketched some art that I like. It was my way of getting into the minds of the artists. Each sketch was quickly done in a few minutes while standing up. :D
